Summary: | Although the total cross section for the capture of neutrons by the element erbium is fairly well known, the cross section of the Er¹ isotope is unknown, while that of Er¹⁰ is somewhat uncertain. The capture cross sections of Er¹ and Er¹⁰ may be obtained by irradiating a quantity of erbium in the reactor and measuring the amount of Er¹ and Er¹¹ produced by resolving the total decay into its two components. |
