The idea of applying management principles to highway maintenance gained popularity as the systems were better defined and the benefits became obvious. Maintenance management is a method of controlling resources to accomplish a predetermined level of service through planning, budgeting, scheduling, reporting and evaluating. Planning consists of defining maintenance activities, compiling a features inventory, establishing priorities, establishing quality, quantity, performance standards and compiling cost data. |
