Summary: | From dusk till dawn: With a wink and a nod to drive-in theatres and sweaty back seats, From Dusk Till Dawn unites two cult favorites: Quentin Tarantino and Richard Rodriquez. The notorious Gekko Brothers, Seth and Richard, are on the run, headed for Mexico to meet with the mysterious "Carlos." Their simple bank robbery ended up killing multiple Texas Rangers, so they hijack the mobile home of Minister Jacob Fuller and his family to ensure their safe passage. Their appointed destination is a neon-covered topless bar catering to bikers and truckers who've wandered off the beaten path. Everything seems fine until the bar's staff, band, and patrons turn out to be vampires! Full-tilt boogie: A full-length "making of" documentary that was theatrically released. Unlike most such docs, name actors are interviewed, but are only rarely the focus of the film. This film is about the assistant directors, the personal assistants, the grips, the people from craft services, the drivers--indeed, the vast unseen bulk of the iceberg that supports the average film production. There are also disasters: the exterior facade for the Titty Twister burned down, shooting was halted by dust storms, and the threat of union action over Rodriguez's choice to shoot with a non-union crew. In the end, the last scene has the crew giving each other rounds of hugs after wrapping the last shot is as sentimental as a family reunion, testament to why films--for all the difficulty--continue to be made. |
